About Our Georgia Senior Living Facilities

A Tradition of Excellence in Senior Living

Presbyterian Homes of Georgia is a Christian ministry providing exceptional services to enhance the quality of life for senior adults. That has been our sole mission since our inception in 1949.

As a true nonprofit organization, the needs of our residents at our vibrant retirement communities across Georgia are absolutely first and foremost. All our income is reinvested in our senior living facilities in Georgia rather than taken as profit. This guiding principle provides you and your family the assurance of knowing that everything we do and every decision we make is to benefit those we serve. This leads to better overall care and a more fulfilling experience for all our residents, staff and community.

Presbyterian Homes of Georgia is a pioneer in senior living. We’re an all-inclusive ministry serving people without regard to race, gender, religion, national origin, color, creed or handicap status. Persons of all faiths are welcome. In addition, never in our history has a resident been asked to leave because of outliving their financial means.

Gracious Living Close to Home

We offer the opportunity to enjoy a vibrant retirement lifestyle in four outstanding retirement communities in Georgia, with a fifth community in development. All promote active and engaging senior living with programs and services that nurture the mind, body and spirit.

Presbyterian Village Austell and Presbyterian Home and Retirement Community Quitman are Continuing Care Retirement Communities (also known as Life Plan Communities) that offer a full spectrum of living accommodations for those 62 and older.

Both offer spacious, maintenance-free Independent Living options designed for those who want the freedom of an active, carefree lifestyle. If needs change, residents have access to a full continuum of exceptional care, including Supportive Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing if they ever need it, all right on campus.

Our third Life Plan Community, Presbyterian Village Athens, is located in pastoral Oconee County, just minutes from downtown Athens. Presbyterian Village Athens provides the finest in state-of-the-art retirement living and residents have priority access to a full continuum of exceptional care, including Supportive Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing

Three additional communities, Calvin Court in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, Philips Tower in Decatur, and Swainsboro Presbyterian Apartments, offer comfortable, affordable apartment living for independent seniors. At each, you’ll find an active social life filled with opportunities to grow and enrich your lifestyle.

Our History

In 1942, an elderly congregant, Anna Corrine Hubert, asked her pastor, Rev. Dr. Frank McElroy Sr., if the church had a place to care for older members. As pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Quitman, Dr. McElroy understood the importance of family. He and his wife Ina Mae Carpenter McElroy had nine children of their own. Developing a Christian ministry to serve God’s senior adults became his purpose and his passion. With the first donation of $50 from widow Mrs. J.W. “Mother” Allen, a ministry began. On September 1, 1949, the Presbyterian Home opened in Quitman with three elderly residents and Dr. McElroy as the director.

Today, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia is a statewide ministry, serving more than 1,000 residents on four campuses with a fifth community in development. Even as the ministry grows, our mission to enhance the quality of life for senior adults remains constant. Our tradition of excellence is unchanged, and thanks to the covenant giving of our supporters, our promise to frail and elderly residents endures.
