Presbyterian Homes of Georgia to build new retirement community in Oconee County
In May 2015, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia (PHGA) secured the required rezoning approval from the Oconee Commission for the development of a brand-new retirement community: Presbyterian Village Athens.
Presbyterian Village Athens will be located at 8021 Macon Highway near Highway 441 and Wellbrook Road on land adjacent to a working farm that is part of the University of Georgia’s esteemed College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Says Alex Patterson, Vice President, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, Inc., “This prime location offers residents all the benefits of life in a peaceful, country-like setting along with quick, convenient access to the restaurants, shopping and dining of downtown Athens and Watkinsville.”
This new community will offer a full continuum of on-site health care services along with indoor and outdoor amenities that include walking trails, tennis courts, a community garden, an indoor saltwater pool, fitness classes and multiple dining venues. According to Patterson, the community will also be home to a large Village Center and a state-of-the-art Health Services Center “defined by next-level convenience and connectivity, which PHGA believes will serve as a model for future retirement communities across the country.”
Presbyterian Village Athens began accepting Priority Reservation deposits on October 19, 2016, at a launch event held at the Georgia Museum of Art. “We had to schedule an overflow event to accommodate nearly 300 people who were interested in being the first to learn about the project. We’re off to a good start with a total of over 200 Priority Program depositors joining at, and even before, the launch events,” says Dr. Frank McElroy, President and CEO, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, Inc. Priority program membership offers members access to a valuable package of benefits, including the opportunity to be among the first to select the residence of their choice.
The Information Center at Presbyterian Village Athens is scheduled to open in spring 2017, and the expected project completion is spring 2021.
